The Creators of the cartoon South Park starred in a small flood (trickle?) of movies in the end of the 90s. It ended with this movie, BASEketball, in which our two protagonists prove that a ball in the hoop is better than two in the sack. Or something.

It’s a sports comedy by the “formula” – losers start a team, losers face odds and end up winning the day. The sport in this case is one of their own creation, mixing baseball, basketball, and college party tricks. The guys are likeable, the chicks are hot, and the beers are cold.

By the way, did I say this was a sports comedy? Scratch that. This has very little to do with actual athletics, and will probably find a better audience in people who aren’t into sports. Much like Airplane!(also by David Zucker), this movie keeps the gags coming, and coming. It may not be laugh-out-loud funny every time, but there’s just a feeling that they’re really trying to make you laugh constantly. No real build-ups, just pay-offs.

The movie is a bit rough, and it’s quite possible to really hate these guys, they’re not cups of tea in any way. But for me, it’s a great, classic one of a kind look into a sport where, as they say, “guys with bad backs and bad knees can get together and compete on the same field as guys that are all goosed up on steroids”.
