Revenge of the Cow Tipper

Dir. Kevin Smith

Starring Brian O’Halloran, Jeff Anderson, Rosario Dawson, Jason Mewes etc.

The real life adventures of our favorite clerks continues. We return to the Quick Stop to find nothing much has changed in Dante’s and Randal’s lives, but they’re experiencing some growing pains as life beyond 30 settles in. There are some surprises in this movie, but also much of what you’d expect if you’ve seen the first movie.

Most of Kevin Smith’s movies can be seen as a TV-series, except on larger screens, with longer between episodes. There is a lot of inter-connecting going on, with re-use of locations, people and jokes between the movies. This means you stand a chance of feeling left out if you haven’t seen the back catalogue before watching Clerks 2.

There’s also a good chance you won’t, because funny is funny, and poignant is poignant. And much like Agatha Christie’s fictional detective, Clerks 2 has a french accent. As in “pardon my french”. If you have a problem with people swearing, not in a scarface kind of way, but in an everyday setting, then you may find this offensive. If your secret shame is laughing at dead baby jokes, you’ll probably be OK though.

This movie made me laugh quite a bit. I think I missed a few of the jokes because my laughing was drowning out the dialogue. And what dialogue it is, oh yessir. In my humble opinion Smith shares the throne with Whedon on that one. Well, there’s always the second viewing in a year or two.
